Can the shelves support heavy objects?

Each shelf is rated to support 100 lbs of evenly-distributed weight. That rating is more than sufficient to store, for example, 25 hardcover books on a shelf with plenty to spare. We don’t advise placing objects weighing more than 100 lbs on a shelf, and to limit deflection, heavy objects should not be placed on the extreme edges or only the center of the shelves.

Is the Shelving Set suitable for kitchen and bathroom applications?

Our systems are made of 6063-grade aluminum, a non-ferrous, lightweight material, and they do not rust. In addition to living room, office, bedroom and other areas, they are thus well-suited for use in the kitchen and bathroom as well as libraries, living rooms, offices, bedrooms and other living spaces.

How do I care for and maintain my Shelving Set?

Our shelving does not require any special maintenance beyond occasional dusting. To clean the shelving, you can use a soft cloth with mild dish soap and water. We advise that people steer clear of ammonia, bleach and other aggressive cleaners/abrasives, as they can damage the finish.

Can I expand the Starter Set to two bays or more?

Yes. Our systems are modular, and fully adjustable. To expand your Starter Set, you can order additional 3-shelf kits — they can be combined to create hundreds of different configurations. Easy-to-follow, illustrated installation instructions are included.

How do you ship within the US?

We do not charge to ship the Rakks Starter Sets to North America (contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaiߵi, Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico), however, you may be responsible for customs and other fees on your end. We ship to North America via UPS or T-Force (formerly known as UPS Freight).

Do you ship Starter Sets to Alaska or Hawai’i?

Rakks Starter Sets ship FREE to North America (the contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaiߵi, Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico). We ship to North America via UPS or T-Force (formerly known as UPS Freight). For locations outside the US, you may be responsible for customs and other fees on your end.

Do you ship Starter Sets to my country?

Currently, our Shelf Starter Sets ship via UPS or T-Force (formerly known as UPS Freight) to North America and soon we will be shipping to select countries in Europe/UK, Asia, Africa, South America and Oceania. Orders will start their journey to you within 1-2 business days.

For countries outside of North America, we will charge a discounted flat fee for shipping based on zones. Please note you may be responsible for customs and other fees on your end.

Installation

Does the kit come with installation instructions?

Yes, we have prepared an illustrated guide to assist in installing the Starter Set in your space efficiently and simply, using basic hand tools. It will be included in your shipment, and you can also view the guide online here.

Do I need to hire installers?

While some people like to hire installers out of convenience, our products are designed to be installed efficiently and simply, using basic hand tools. Every system comes with illustrated guides that outline the what and the how of Rakks installation. If you need clarification or phone support with installation, our service staff is at the ready to assist: 781-455-8700, Option 1.

Do both wall standards have to be screwed into wall studs?

Yes, we require both standards to be securely mounted into studs to ensure the safety of your system.

Can I install this system on concrete, metal studs and other kinds of wall material?

Yes, you can install the Starter Set on other wall types, such as metal studs, concrete, brick, etc., although the installation methods and hardware for each vary somewhat and may require special expertise. Please contact our service team for pointers on proper installation techniques for these materials: 781-455-8700, Option 1.

Will the installation damage my wall?

The installation requires eight (8) small holes to be drilled into the wall for the screws. No other damage should occur if installed correctly. Note we do offer floor-to-ceiling shelving that utilizes a pressure-mounted system that does not damage walls. Check our lines of custom shelving here.

Can I place brackets at the extreme top and bottom of the wall standards?

For structural reasons, the upper pair of brackets must be placed at least 6” from the top of the wall standards. The bottom brackets, however, can be placed anywhere, even flush at the base of the system if you like.

By how much can the sides of the shelves overhang the bracket?

The shelves can overhang a maximum of 8” from the bracket.

Are the shelves secure in case of earthquakes?

The Shelving Set includes patented hold-down clip accessories that help secure shelves in the event of an earthquake. Make sure to follow the procedures in our illustrated installation guide.

Cancellation and Returns

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, you can cancel your order within a business day. If you go to the website within this timeframe and are unable to cancel, please contact our service team: Service@Rakks.com or 781-455-8700, Option 1.

Can I return my order/get a refund?

We ask that you inspect your Rakks Starter Set within 48 hours of delivery in the case of damage, incorrect product or omissions and contact us if something is off. If you decide to return our product, keep the box at hand, and contact Service@Rakks.com or 781-455-8700, Option 1, for authorization.

Please note we cannot accept returns without proper authorization and documentation. Our team will work with you to arrange return shipment. Returned Shelf Starter Sets received back within 60 days of delivery will be credited, minus a 20% restocking fee. Items must be returned in saleable condition. Please package the items in the original packaging if available and with sufficient material so it does not sustain damage in transit.
