WAF - World Architecture Festival
As the world’s largest architectural awards program, WAF (World Architectural Festival) is a gathering held every year to honor those who excel in various facets of architecture and design and provides a unique meeting place for architects, suppliers and clients. Aside from awards presentations, WAF includes an international architectural gallery, which featured more than 500 entries from over 65 countries in 2010 and keynote speakers that included the founders of world-renowned, forward-thinking architecture firm Bjarke Ingels. Beginning next Friday, nominations for the 2011 awards begin. In addition to category awards like “Completed Buildings – Libraries” or “Structural Design – Glass”, entrants will vie for the top awards of the event, the World Building of the Year and Future Project of the Year.

In 2010, the top winner of the evening for World Building of the Year was MAXXI, National Museum of XXI Century Arts (pictured below) from Zaha Hadid Architects in London. Zaha Hadid received numerous accolades in 2010 including Visionary of the Year from Harper’s Bazaar, the Sunday Times distinction as one of the “100 Top International Companies,” and founder Zaha Hadid was named one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World.”
